‘Overseas’ show & album
Nguyên Lê x Trung Bao

‘Overseas’ is a multidisciplinary performance program, featuring the participation of many Vietnamese artists, commissioned by the Confluences Museum in Lyon, France. As the name suggests, "Overseas" is a convergence of different creative currents, carrying the Vietnamese spirit both within and beyond the nation's borders. The name "Overseas" was chosen to imply the harmonious combination and integration of contrasting elements, indicating a return to diversity and unity after division, synthesis after differentiation, and the integration between sky and earth.

The project is a collaboration between Nguyen, Tuan Le, Vietnamese ethnic music artist Ngo Hong Quang (Vietnam/Netherlands), beatboxer Trung Bao (Vietnam/United States) Alex Tran and Illya Amar (France). Not to mention, Cyril is a lighting expert, living in Nantes, France, with a strong connection to Vietnam through programs like "My Village," "A O Show," Festival Hue... and is married to a Vietnamese wife. Do Hai Anh is a talented dancer from Ho Chi Minh City, and Phan Hai Bang is an artist specializing in Truc Chi (bamboo paper art) from Hue. The program didn not aim at defining identities, but rather an exploration of the Vietnamese soul, whether they speak Vietnamese or not, and regardless of where they live on this planet. It is what the Vietnamese spirit has transformed into in each individual of the Vietnamese diaspora, across many generations. Premiering at the Musée des Confluences in Lyon, 'Overseas' subsequently toured various cities including Berlin, Germany, as well as the Hanoi Opera House and the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House in Vietnam.
